What is Acupuncture?

Picture
Acupuncture is a form of ancient Chinese medicine.  There are 14 channels of energy called meridians.  These channels run through the entire body and connect with every major organ.  Qi (Chi)  circulates throughout these meridians.  Qi  is the vital force of the body and separates us from either being alive or dead.  Any blockage to the flow of Qi will result in pain, disease or an imbalance to your health.  With the acupuncture needles an acupuncturist will stimulate certain points (acu points) along the meridians.  This helps to restore a balance of Qi to the organs and body systems.  This will set up the body to regenerate and repair itself.  This will in turn help those who receive acupuncture to increase their quality of life.

_Commonly Asked Questions - FAQ

Does acupuncture hurt?

Some patients hesitate to seek acupuncture treatment because they feel uncomfortable about the use of needles. Acupuncture needles are very thin. People experience acupuncture needling differently. People can feel a sensation of a “zing”, heaviness or a dull ache as the needles are inserted, however the needles are so tiny, often they do not feel anything. The sensation should last for no longer then 10 seconds. If there an uncomfortable feeling, the needle will be removed. Needles are never re-used and are disposed of immediately

How often will I need treatments?

The number of treatments differs from person to person, depending on the nature of the problem. We offer a four week protocol that will help a patient find the root cause of their chief complaint.  This four week protocol includes acupuncture, Oriental medicine, a body scan (with NRT), food therapy, lifestyle adjustments and a plan for maintenance.  For complex or long-standing conditions or fertility, weekly treatments over a period of time is usually needed. For a mild injury or an acute problem, usually fewer visits are required.  Many patients choose to come in once a month for maintenance once their chief complaint subsides.  Acupuncture is very relaxing and balancing.  Our goal is to help guide our patients towards a better quality of life.

Do you except insurance?

Many insurance companies refund the patient for acupuncture treatments when a super bill is mailed in. Companies that offer Flex accounts or non-taxible spending accounts also reimburse patients for their treatments.  We also offer an insurance discount program if you qualify based on what type of insurance you carry.

How much will my visits cost?

Our prices range from $25-$95 per treatment.  We offer discount packages based on a purchase of four treatments.  We try our hardest to make acupuncture and Oriental medicine affordable and accessible to everyone.  Ask how we can help you start today.
